North Webster

A Brief History

North Webster was Incorporated a town in June of 1937. The residents voted 201for – 85 against on may 4th and the county commissioners accepted on May 7th.

Mr. Muirhead borrowed $500 from the state sinking Fund and set out building a mill and the dam, which changed several small deep ponds into quite a large lake called Boydston’s lake, which has been called Webster Lake for many years.

Tippecanoe township experienced an influx of settlers or immigrants when public lands where made available.

Thousands of summer visitors enjoyed the lakes and the hospitality of the natives and still do.

Boydston’s mill burned several times and was rebuilt. But after a fire in 1949 it wasn’t rebuilt. The only thing left of the mill is a small burial ground with the Boydston family buried there. The burial ground is still maintained today.

After the fire in 1949 The Webster lake association purchased the Dam site.

In 1952 The Dam was rebuilt to maintain the condition of the lake, which it still is today.

The town of north Webster still has many historic buildings maintained today.

North Webster even boasts of our own automobile manufacturing. Built in 1907 called the Ruth.

The community swells in the summer months to a large population of “lakers” a term best known for the tourists.

North Webster has any quaint shops, even a sternwheeler to take a scenic ride around beautiful Lake Webster. On the 45 min ride you go by the former site of Yellowbanks Hotel, which had many famous guests including Al Capone, john Dillinger and many more.

North Webster boasts a rich history, which is still evident today.
